Program Overview

Earn your elementary teaching license while staying close to home! Our Elementary Education (AS) degree will develop your understanding of theory and professional application appropriate for pre-kindergarten, elementary, and middle school education. Through general, professional, and foundational courses, plus field experience, you’ll gain a well-rounded foundation and be prepared to transfer to most elementary education degree programs for continued education. In an exciting move, we’ve partnered with Southern Oregon University to create an articulated pathway to help you easily transfer credits toward their Bachelor’s degree program in Education Studies while staying on campus at Southwestern! If your goals take you in another direction, our Elementary Education (AS) degree meets all the requirements of an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer Degree making it eligible for a “block transfer” of general education credits to any four-year Oregon public university! Speak with an advisor today to create your roadmap to success in elementary education!

By enrolling in Southwestern’s childhood education degrees, on-campus students will be able to practice in our on-site accredited laboratory school with highly qualified mentor-teachers. Check out our Family Center here! Placements in local elementary schools are arranged through our Internship Coordination program. See the complete course list for more details.
