Brookings, OR – Curry County residents looking to complete their GED® who are interested in a career in welding could be eligible to receive training at no cost through Southwestern Oregon Community College Curry Campus. The program begins September 14, 2026, and will allow up to four students to work toward their GED and Welding Certificate at the same time.

To be eligible, participants must be Curry County residents who are at least 18 years old and need to complete their GED. This is a full-time student commitment and may not be suitable for individuals who are currently working. GED instruction takes place during the afternoon and welding classes are offered in the evening and/or online.

Training will take place through a combination of:

  • Brookings-Harbor High School Welding Lab (after high school hours)
  • Southwestern’s Curry Campus in Brookings
  • Online instruction

The program is designed to help students complete their education while gaining practical skills to prepare for a career in welding.

How to Apply

Interested students should email apce@socc.edu no later than August 31, 2026, with their name, contact information, and a brief statement explaining their interest in earning a GED and Welding Certificate.

Space is limited, with up to four students selected for the program. Applicants will participate in an interview as part of the selection process.
