  3. Return the form to the housing office.

Please see the housing agreement for information on refunds on deposits, etc.

What is Gender Inclusive Housing?

Gender Inclusive Housing allows student to share a suite-style living space regardless of a student’s sex or gender. It provides rooming options for a variety of students: those who feel uncomfortable rooming with members of the same sex; supporting transgender, transitioning, and gender non-conforming students in their process of discovering their gender identity/expression; accommodating cultural living expectations; and students who do not want sex or gender to be a primary factor in choosing a roommate. Gender Inclusive Housing is not meant for romantic couples. However, in respecting the privacy of our students, we do not require disclosure of reason for specific roommate/suitemate requests.

Is Gender Inclusive Housing only for a particular community?

Gender Inclusive Housing is available to all interested students willing and able to adhere to the expectations and commitments of the Gender Inclusive Housing option. It is intended to be a welcoming, safe, and inclusive living environment regardless of a student’s sex, sexual orientation, or perceived gender identity. Through Gender Inclusive Housing, students will be able to take part in a living environment that values the importance of understanding and providing a safe and welcoming place for students of all genders.

Why is it important to offer Gender Inclusive Housing?

Traditional, same-sex room/suite assignments are not ideal or appropriate for some students. The Housing and Residence Life office at SWOCC believes it is important to evolve and adapt to meet the needs of students today and tomorrow, in creating a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment. Gender Inclusive Housing helps to create an environment that acknowledges, appreciates, and respects the diversity of the student body by providing option in finding roommates/suitemates that are truly compatible.

Who can live in Gender Inclusive Housing?

All students choosing to live in the residence halls are eligible for this living option. This includes all first-year, continuing, and transfer students.

How are roommates/suitemates chosen?

Roommates are mutually selected, not assigned. All parties must be willing partners. Students can request a roommate of any sex or gender. The living space is designated for the academic year.

Can students be randomly assigned to a roommate/suitemate of the opposite sex?

No. Students opt into Gender Inclusive Housing and roommate arrangements as willing partners.

Are bathrooms gender inclusive too?

Yes. The residence hall features suite-style rooms comprised of single bedrooms and double bedrooms sharing a common space and semi-private bathroom.

How do you assign rooms and match roommates?

We allow students to select their own spaces and match themselves with roommates using our housing software. In the event that a student does not select a room or roommate, we will assign students based on their roommate preferences. When a student is eligible to select a room depends on the date the student completed the online housing application AND paid the $250 deposit.

Can I request a specific roommate?

Yes. You can use our housing software to create roommate groups and select roommates.

Is student housing open during term breaks?

The apartments are open from the day students move in until the last day of spring term with the exception of winter break. Students may leave their items in their rooms and apartments over winter break, but are required to check out with their RA’s 24 hours after their last final.

What do I do if there's a maintenance or other problem with my apartment?

Submit a work request through myLakerLink. When you have an issue in your apartment whether it is a leaky faucet, burned out light, broken oven element, missing window screen, or something more serious, our maintenance staff will help.

Do I need a car? Is public transportation available?

It is up to you. You don’t necessarily need a car. A variety of convenient and affordable transportation options are available to residents, including the bus and local cab companies. If you plan to visit Eugene, Corvallis, Portland, or other towns out of our area, we recommend bringing a car. Students with cars will need to pick up a free parking permit from the housing office when they arrive.

Can I see your room and board agreement?

Our room and board agreement includes pricing and other important housing policy information. Click here to view the agreement:
