How Adrenergic Systems Drive Neurogenesis, Elevate Mood, Enhance Cognition, and Extend Life
COOS BAY, Ore. – Southwestern Oregon Community College invites the community to join us on Thursday, October 8, 2026, at 6:00 pm, for “Rewiring the Brain: How Adrenergic Systems Drive Neurogenesis, Elevate Mood, Enhance Cognition, and Extend Life” with Jason Power of Powered Global, a Coos Bay based organization looking to bridge gaps in STEM education. This is a free event; all ages are welcome.
Coos County residents can join us in-person in the Umpqua Hall lecture room (room 184) on the Coos Campus, 1988 Newmark Ave., Coos Bay.
Curry County residents can join us for a watch party in the Community Room on the Curry Campus, 96082 Lone Ranch Parkway, Brookings.

About the Lecture:
Adult neurogenesis, the generation of new neurons from neural stem cells, has long been misunderstood. Neurogenesis was known to occur rapidly during early development but was assumed to be non-existent in adulthood. Current research now demonstrates that neurogenesis does occur in adulthood; however, the underlying mechanisms are poorly understood. This presentation explores the role of the adrenergic system in modulating neurogenesis, resulting in elevated mood, enhanced learning and memory, and increased life expectancy in mice.
About the Presenter:
Jason Power is a researcher, educator, and the founder of PowerEd Global LLC. With an interdisciplinary academic foundation in biomedical sciences, psychology, and engineering, his previous research has explored the neurobiology of learning and memory; specifically, how neurogenic pathways influence cognitive function, mood, and life expectancy in mice. Today, he works to provide STEM education to students across the globe.
