About the Presenter:
Al has been behind the camera since he was seven years old. He says his wife forced him to retire in 2016 and he’s been shooting Astro ever since. He shoots many types of photography and has won multiple awards in the Washington State Fair photography contest. Al prefers “Old Man Photography”.

Students attending Southwestern Oregon Community College now have the opportunity to receive up to $6,000 through the Laker Learn and Earn Grant, funded by the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). This grant is designed to help students cover the cost of career-focused education in high-demand fields.
The grant is available to students pursuing one-year Career and Technical Education (CTE) certificate programs, specifically those listed on the Eligible Training Provider List (ETPL), which includes programs such as Accounting & Marketing, Childhood Education, Culinary, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Forestry, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, Welding, and more.
Basic Qualifications Include:
Must be 18 or older
Have a state-issued ID
Be legal to work in the U.S.
Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)

Southwestern Oregon Community College’s Pre-Apprenticeship program SWOCC Works will be holding orientation and registration events at both Coos and Curry campuses during the week of September 16, 2024.
The Pre-Apprenticeship program is an introduction to construction and heavy equipment operation, including simulated heavy equipment operation and tools of the trade. We teach foundational safety and career readiness skills alongside foundational trade and industry skills. Participants build a minimum of two projects during the course. The program is open to anyone who is 16 or older, is free, and lasts 22 weeks (two terms).

5:00 pm – 6:00 pm = Parent Talk for Housing Families (Umpqua Hall 184):Intended for parents/guardians of students living in student housing. A Q&A session to ask any remaining questions and to gain any clarity about student housing.

John Topits Trail Clean-Up (Hull Street Entrance to John Topits Park):Volunteer with the Oregon Bay Area Beautification (OBAB), the Coos Bay Parks Department, and the Coos Watershed Association to help beautify John Topits Park and the SWOCC Campus. Bring work gloves, cutting tools for shrubbery, trash grabbers (if you have them), water, sunscreen, and wear appropriate clothes for working outdoors. Leaf blowers, weed wrenches, trash bags and disposal will be provided.

Coos Bay, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College announces the names of students who excelled spring term for the 2023-2024 academic school year. These students are being recognized with placement on the college’s Dean’s List (DL), Honor Roll (HR) and Academic Excellence (AE) list.
• Academic Excellence – students must receive a GPA of 4.0 in at least 12 credits
• Honor Roll – students must receive a GPA between 3.5 and 3.99 in at least 12 credits
• Dean’s List – students must receive a GPA between 3.0 and 3.49 in at least 12 credits
